Raila tells Khalwale, Wamalwa to quit New Ford-Kenya, join ODM

By ROSELYNE OBALA

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has invited MPs Eugene Wamalwa (Saboti) and Boni Khalwale (Ikolomani) to join ODM.
Saturday, Raila told the two legislators that ODM has majority support and vowed to strengthen the party to form the next government.
"Join ODM, which is a strong team. You cannot form a government without enjoying overwhelming support nationwide," said the PM. He added, "Khalwale join ODM. A party with two sitting MPs in Parliament has a long way to establish itself nationally."
The PM said New Ford-Kenya, which is the MPs’ party, is yet to spread its wings beyond Western.
He advised the two to decamp to ODM, saying it was too premature for Wamalwa to run for president on New Ford-Kenya ticket.
Raila assured Khalwale and Wamalwa that their ideologies would be implemented through ODM.
"Your eloquent speeches and ideologies will be channelled properly through ODM," he said.
The PM reiterated that ODM stands for change, good governance and fighting graft and when it forms the next government, this will be fully implemented.
"ODM is the party to beat. We will implement our polices once we take over the Government," he said.
Raila urged Kenyans to vote ‘six piece’ in the next elections to ensure the party gets majority numbers to address their issues.
"I do not want a mixed Government. I want to be the people’s president with enough soldiers to back me up," he said.
Policies
He explained that if he is voted president without commanding the majority in Parliament, senator and governorship, he would be held hostage. "I do not want to be held a prisoner in my Government. I want to have enough soldiers to tackle and address the people’s concerns without banking on other party representatives to endorse bills," he added.
Raila was addressing mourners at the burial of the Nabongo William Wambani Rapando of East Wanga village, Mumias District, Saturday.
He was accompanied by his wife Ida, ministers Fred Gumo (Regional Development), James Orengo (Lands) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Planning). Assistant minister Manyala Keya and Mumias MP Ben Washiali were also present.
The PM told other parties to keep off ODM issues.
"New Ford-Kenya has their own policies and issues therefore they should refrain from our party matters," he added. He said ODM was unable to execute the party policies in the Coalition Government.
Leaders told Raila to meet President Kibaki and set election date.
The Kakamega County Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General John Wesonga moved the crowd when he said they were tired of the tenth Parliament.
Oparanya, Wamalwa and Khalwale said they were ready for the elections even in August.
"We should not delay the elections anymore, the two principals need to come out clearly on the date and end anxiety," said Wamalwa.
