Police have arrested six suspected gangsters and recovered two guns, 70 rounds of assorted ammunition and police uniforms.
Area OCPD Musa Kongoli showed the media two guns, an AK-47 rifle and a homemade gun recovered from the gang. Mr Kongoli said some of the suspects were on a police list of most wanted criminals.
"We got a tip-off from the public of the presence of the suspects in Kondele. We moved there immediately and arrested four," said the OCPD, on the incident that occurred on Mondayat around 1am.
He said the police then moved to Nyahera, about 15 kilometres from town, and arrested two more suspects in a blue Mercedes Benz who were found with two pairs of police uniforms and two jackets.
The police revealed that the uniforms were genuine, although they could not say how they came into the criminals’ possession. Other items recovered included a panga, two vehicle number plates, two magazines, a pocket phone and a police crown.
"These gangsters are believed to have been behind the shoot out at United Mall (along Kisumu-Kakamega Road) at the weekend," said area DCIO Peter Matu.
