Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi took his bid to be the ODM flag bearer to Kilifi County and said his government’s top priority would be to improve the national economy.
He said his other agenda as Kenya’s fourth president would be to reduce unemployment and control prices of basic commodities to affordable levels.
Mr Mudavadi said his government would also ensure smooth implementation of the new Constitution.
Meeting 300 ODM delegates at the Kilifi County Council Hall on Saturday, Mr Mudavadi, who is also minister for Local Government, said he was in the Coast to meet grassroots leaders so as to disseminate the party strategies for the elections.
“I am here to meet grassroots leaders to tell them to prepare thoroughly and properly for the elections which could be held this or next year,” he said.
He said ODM was going full throttle in the elections and targeted majority win in parliamentary, senate and governor seats.
He was accompanied by Fisheries minister Amason Kingi, Bahari MP Ben Gunda, Kikuyu MP and assistant minister in his office Lewis Nguyai, local councillors and ODM branch leaders.
Mr Mudavadi, who said ODM was the party to beat, urged residents to support it fully, adding that the party was the brainchild behind devolution which the region fought for for many years.
He said important Bills would be published from next week among them the County Government Transitional Bill.
The minister said his party would “vigorously resist” the scrapping of the senate. The party was happy with the High Court ruling giving President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga a say over the date of the next General Election, he said.
Mr Kingi said ODM was strong in Coast as it supported devolution.“Devolution is now enshrined in the Constitution. This was our song for decades as a region,” he said.
Mr Gunda said the party officials would go round the country to disseminate ODM policies and agendas among grassroots voters.
