A 12-year-old girl who was expelled from a school in Narok North district after her mother disagreed with its management has appealed to Education minister Sam Ongeri to intervene. Silvia Gathoni, a Class Six pupil at St Mary’s Girls Boarding Primary School, said she  cannot get admission in another school after she was expelled at the beginning of this term. “I did not sit for the end year examinations last year. That would enabled me to proceed to Standard Seven. I reported to school this year but the headmistress sent me away,” she told the press in Narok town yesterday.
Trouble started last year when she was allegedly accused of stealing her colleagues’ pair of shoes. She was beaten, forcing her her mother to report the incident to the police. When contacted over the matter, Narok North district education officer Kuyo ole Saoinah said that his efforts to reconcile the parent and the headmistress were futile. Saoinah advised the girl's parents to look for another school for her since teachers at St Mary’s ''have developed a negative attitude towards her''.
