Some judicial officers are gloating at the unravelling saga surrounding the Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza. They have told the Star that they are keenly watching to see how the DCJ extricates herself from the mess and continues with her work of leading reforms in the Judiciary. Some believe the incident will greatly hamper her work as the incident borders on issues of personal integrity.

A senior officer at the now defunct Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC) has had his security withdrawn less than six months after he left office. Our moles tell us the officer has not been paid his terminal benefits despite a government memo issued in November instructing the commission to pay him.

Even before the parliamentary committee investigating the Ministry of Sports officials involved in the alleged mismanagement of the Kenya team to last year's All Africa Games in Maputo have presented their findings, the officials have now been appointed to the local Olympics organisation committee. The decision by Sports minister Paul Otuoma to appoint the officials has raised eyebrows as yet another example of impunity being allowed to thrive in the ministry.

Residents of Nairobi's Kilimani area are wondering how the Liquor Licensing Committee headed by Provincial Commissioner Ndirangu Njoroge and the City Council allowed the establishment of a bar and restaurant on Kirichwa Road right in the midst of a residential area. The residents have been kept awake by the loud music and the shouts of inebriated patrons as they stagger out. Incidentally, the bar/restaurant was opened on New Year's Eve!
