Bodies of kidnapped men found

By Cyrus Ombati and Patrick Kibet

The bodies of two people who were kidnapped by gunmen from Athi River last month have been found at the City Mortuary.
The bodies of Collins Limiri Muriungi and Stephen Kinyua were discovered after a caller asked the family of Muriungi to check at the mortuary after reading a story on the missing men in the newspaper.
Muriungi’s wife, Mrs Beatrice Khaseke, said they heeded the request and identified the bodies.
"They were taken there by police who said they collected them from Mwiki area. Apparently, they had been shot by the kidnappers," she said on Wednesday.
Muriungi had been at work at his chemist when he and Kinyua were abducted by three gunmen who claimed to be police officers on December 30. Khaseke said they had sought to sell the shop and Kinyua was an interested buyer.

She said she had never been contacted by the kidnappers but revealed that the family of Kinyua had been contacted by people who sought to be given Sh5 million for his release.
Athi River police chief Charles Kiriinya termed the death of the two unfortunate, saying they were investigating the incident.
Earlier, the Muriungi family lawyer, Mr Gordon Ogolla and the Law Society of Kenya Rift Valley Chairman, Mr Lawrence Karanja had asked the police to come clean and release information about the mysterious disappearance.
