Kibunjia team to probe ex-MP over hate speech

A former MP will be investigated by the cohesion team for allegedly making racist statements in connection with the trial of the Ocampo Six by the International Criminal Court.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission says the MP allegedly warned whites living in parts of central Kenya to get ready to leave should the ICC confirm charges of crimes against humanity facing the individuals.
Commissioner Ahmed Yassin told reporters in Mombasa on Wednesday that they would formally order an investigations once the matter was brought to their attention by State organs and individuals.
Attack white settlers
The former lawmaker reportedly vowed at a rally in Limuru last Friday to rally Kikuyu youth to attack white settlers in parts of Mount Kenya region should the Ocampo Six be found that they have a case to answer over the 2007-08 post election violence.
The six are Eldoret North MP William Ruto, journalist Joshua arap Sang, Civil Service boss Francis Muthaura, suspended Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey, Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta and former police boss Hussein Ali.
The confirmation hearings start this morning at The Hague.
Commission chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia has said: “We will not relent. Once we have evidence that their utterances amount to incitement, we will push for their prosecution.”
