Speaking in President Kibaki’s Othaya backyard, the Gichugu MP asked Kenyans to consider her reform credentials as they voted for the next president.
Ms Karua described her party as the most reform-focused.
She described herself and party secretary-general Danson Mungatana as notable critics of the government in Parliament.
“Even if I am the last remaining reformer in Parliament, I will stand strong because what affects the poor is close to my heart,” she said.
The Gichugu MP reminded the crowd that she had resigned from the government because of rampant corruption, saying she could not be associated with such a vice.
Defend the poor
The Coalition Government, she said, was still full of corrupt people, adding that this is why she has made it her duty to criticise it at every available opportunity.
She was speaking at Othaya Stadium during the launch of a parliamentary bid for the party’s candidate Peter King’ara.
Ms Karua said if she becomes the next president, she would continue to defend the poor and the youth, whom she noted had been marginalised.
The Narc-K leader is one of the many candidates who have declared their intentions to run for the presidency in the General Election expected next year.
The presidential hopeful drew cheers from the crowd after declaring that she was keen on succeeding President Kibaki, who is the MP for Othaya.
