Share/Save/Bookmark Presidential aspirant Mutava Musyimi yesterday said he is not out to ruin vice president Kalonzo Musyoka's chances for top job as claimed by a section of ODM-K legislators. "I am not out to spoil for anybody. I am just giving Kenyans their democratic opportunity to vote for a person of their choice," Musyimi said. He said he has received requests from three political parties to contest the presidency in their party ticket but he is yet to make his choice. Musyimi said he will not contest as an independent candidate but added it was too early to identify himself with a political party.
The Gachoka MP was speaking to the press in Machakos town after meeting women and youth leaders at the Machakos social hall to get their views on social problems and leadership in general. "I am here to seek your votes but don't vote for me because I am your tribesman but because of my policies and what I stand for," he told the gathering. He at the same time told Kenyans to be extra careful in who they elect in the county governments as the stakes were very high.
"The 47 counties will get 15 percent of sh1 trillion and we must elect people with prudent financial management skills if we are to prosper from the devolved system," Musyimi said.
He added that once elected as president, he would continue with infrastructure development and hailed president Kibaki for his achievements in the same. "I will take over and continue from where Kibaki has left in infrastructure development especially roads, power a long with uplifting the living standards of wananchi," the Gachoka MP said.
He added that Kenya's biggest problem was the politicians and poor planning which he blamed for the life threatening famine that has hit Northern Kenya.
Musyimi said he would also prioritize the education sector and ensure more middle level colleges especially polytechnics and technical institutes are build in the counties.
The MP lamented that mot enough has been done as far as peace building is concerned following the post election violence that rocked the country in 2002. He added that for the country to prosper,we must be committed to wealth creation and the youth must be in the forefront of doing this.
