NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 9- Former Ugenya Mp Archbishop Stephen Oluoch Ondiek is dead.
According to his eldest daughter Milcah Ondiek, the former legislator passed on at the Nairobi Hospital at about midnight on Friday due to diabetic complications.
Ms Ondiek told Capital News that her father was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital on Monday at the high dependency unit but his condition worsened on Tuesday and he was taken to Intensive Care Unit.
She said: “Dad was taken ill on Monday and was admitted to Nairobi hospital, His condition deteriorated on Tuesday and he was admitted to the ICU and he passed on at a round midnight on Friday due to diabetic related complications.”
Friends and family members continued to stream into his home in Nairobi on Saturday to express their condolences while his body is being preserved at the Lee funeral home.
According to the eldest daughter, the former legislator died aged 66 and leaves behind 2 wives (Margaret and Conciliah) and 16 children.
“He has left quite a number of us some of us in Kenya, others in the United States of America, some in the United Kingdom but all of us loved him just like he did,” said a tearful daughter of a man who was a former Minister for Works.
Archbishop Ondiek was first elected to parliament in 1983 on a KANU ticket after un-sitting his perennial rival and brother in law James Orengo.
He recaptured his seat in 1988 before Mr Orengo trounced him in 1992 in the first multi party elections and went on to retain his seat in 1997.
Mr Orengo lost the Ugenya seat to the Archbishop in 2002 in the hotly contested election but Mr Ondiek served until the term that ended in 2007.
