After we questioned why 19 GK pick up vehicles were parked at Cooperative College in Karen and their sudden disappearance after workers’ curiosity over their presence, the government has come out to explain. According to Cooperatives PS Seno Nyakenyanya, the vehicles were part of a fleet acquired through the supplies department at the Ministry of Public Works to be used by ministry field officers. The PS says the ministry opted to park the vehicles at the college until they are dispatched to the field. Some have already been dispatched.

Anti-narcotics police in the Coast province are on high alert following fears that a fresh consignment of drugs may be on the high seas. The cops say a sign of the drugs’ arrival is the presence of two businessmen-cum-politicians from Nairobi who have been hovering in the coast region for the last three weeks. The sleuths have been trailing the two, who have been oscillating between South Coast, Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu. The two, who are highly connected, were in the region shortly before police in Malindi nabbed another consignment in July this year. Muslim leaders are also planning a major anti-drug demo soon to pre-empt the planned delivery, as the police have expressed frustration in unearthing the drug syndicate since the suspects are connected to some powerful forces within political circles.

Two powerful civil servants in the Office of the President are pushing for their own to be appointed to the powerful positions of the Inspector General of Police and two assistants. The two, both from the Mt Kenya region, are close of the centre of power and are fronting for people perceived as their point men to get the plum appointment when the Kenya Police Service Commission begins the process of recruiting the police chiefs.

We are informed that a Cabinet Minister is being bribed millions of shillings before he approves the extension of contracts for CEOs of parastatals under him. We are told that the man 'had difficulty' approving the extension of contracts for two CEOs until they found a way to pay him the funds. Our mole has informed us that the man is raising campaign funds for his 2012 re-election bid.
