Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli caused a stir last week during the funeral of Regional Development minister Fred Gumo's mother, Mama Martina Tanga Gumo. The outspoken unionist told Prime Minister Raila Odinga to his face that the dwindling fortunes of ODM are the result of hardliners in the party leadership. Atwoli singled out Medical Services minister Anyang' Nyong'o telling the PM that it was time he dropped the minister as the party's Secretary General to increase his chances of winning next year's election. Nyong'o, who was seated at the podium, watched pensively as Atwoli criticised him.
