A 32-year-old man was stoned to death after he stabbed his two friends following a disagreement at Gitimbine in Meru Town.
Mr Aaron Gitonga is said to have been engaged in a heated argument with his friends when he suddenly removed a knife and stabbed them in the stomach.
Area deputy police boss Joseph Cheruiyot said the victims, Mr Sammy Miriti and Mr Jeremiah Mwenda, raised the alarm, attracting a mob that attacked the assailant with huge stones and other weapons.
Mr Cheruiyot said a man who was guarding a nearby building wrestled the assailant to the ground and disarmed him. The mob then descended on him.
Mr Cheruiyot said: ‘‘Police officers on patrol took the victims to Meru Level-5 Hospital where they were admitted in stable condition.’’
He urged residents to shun mob justice and report criminals to the police.
At the same time, a family is trying to come to terms with the death of an assistant chief in Kirinyaga County.
The administrator, Haniel Muchiri Mugo, 47, was on Monday evening found hanging from a tree in his farm at Ngariama Village of Gichugu.
He was believed to have committed suicide over debts he owed local businessmen in his Thigirichi sub-location.
Mr Mugo’s body was spotted by his son who had gone to pick fruits after arriving home from a nearby primary school.
Mr Mugo arrived on Monday morning after spending a night outside his home and went straight to the kitchen without talking to his wife.
Minutes later, the assistant chief, who appeared disturbed, walked out and proceeded to the farm but he never returned.
