10 by-elections have swept aside seven legislators so far

Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati joins a growing list of members of the Tenth Parliament whose election has been nullified by the courts.

Mr Nyambati becomes the 11th MP to lose his seat in a petition.
On Friday, judge Milton Makhandia ruled in favour of a voter, Justus Omiti Mong’umbu, who had challenged Mr Nyambati’s election.
Of the 11 petitions, three were delivered by the High Court sitting in Kisii.
Bomachoge: Former MP Joel Onyancha’s election was overturned by judge Daniel Musinga and the by-election was the first test for the Interim Independent Electoral Commission, which was set up after the Samuel Kivuitu team was disbanded.
The by election was won by ODM’s Simon Ogari.
South Mugirango: A petition lodged by current MP Manson Nyamweya challenged the election of Mr Omingo Magara.
Justice Musinga nullified the election and in the by-election Mr Nyamweya triumphed on a Ford People ticket after beating Mr Magara and ODM’s Ibrahim Ochoi who has since died.
Matuga: Voter, Ayub Juma Mwakwesi challenged the election of Cabinet minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere.
Judge Mohammed Ibrahim overturned Mr Mwakwere’s election, but Mr Makwere retained his seat during the by-election, becoming the first MP in the Tenth Parliament to successfully defend his seat.
Starehe, Makadara and Juja: The election of Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Mr Dick Wathika and George Thuo were thrown out by judges Kihara Kariuki, Kalpana Rawal and Luka Kimaru.
However, Bishop Wanjiru retained her seat in the by-election, while in Makadara, Gidion Mbuvi Kioko alias Mike Sonko won.
In Juja, Mr Kabogo, on a Narc Kenya ticket easily trounced Mr Thuo of PNU who finished a distant third.
Wajir South: A loser, Mr Mahamud Sirat challenged the election of Mr Hassan Abdirahman Ali.
Justice Kimaru ruled in favour of Mr Sirat and in the ensuing by election, Mr Sirat of ODM-Kenya won.
Kirinyaga Central: A by-election after former MP Daniel Karaba challenged the election of businessman John Ngata Kariuki. But Mr Karaba lost to PNU’s Joseph Gitari.

Ikolomani: MP Boni Khalwale was sent packing by judge Isaac Lenaola in Kakamega, but Mr Khalwale reclaimed his seat in the by-election.
Kamukunji: Voters will pick their new MP next week after Justice Mary Ang’awa nullified Simon Mbugua’s election after a petition by Mr Ibrahim Ahmed. Mr Mbugua is not defending the seat.
