By Ernest NdundaTwo aspirants for the chairmanship in the forthcoming football election Twaha Mbarak and Hussein Mohammed could soon join forces following a public endorsement by a scion of an influential political family.
Mbarak and Hussein agreed to work "with like-minded people in the quest to bring change to football administration" without saying who between them was ready to step back from the top seat.
The two were urged to join forces to form a formidable winning team.
Fidel Odinga, the son of Prime Minister Raila Odinga publicly endorsed Mbarak and Hussein as his preferred candidates for the chairmanship.
"We need the right people to run football and bring the changes Kenyans have been yearning for for a long time," said Odinga.
He spoke when he graced the final match of Vyakweli tournament at Bomani ground, Mombasa, on Saturday where Mbarak also attended.
Strong teamVimbwanga edged out Kishada 2-1 in the final watched by thousands of supporters who included former Harambee Stars player led by Joe Kadenge.
"Twaha, Kenyans have confidence in you, but I would like to see you partnering with Hussein Mohammed to have a strong team to take over the management of Kenyan football," said Fidel amid applause from the crowd.
"I have not come to Mombasa to campaign for anyone, but I am democratically free to give my opinion. For Kenya to claim its lost glory, we need people of Twaha and Hussein’s calibre," said Fidel.

In a rejoinder, Mbarak said he was ready to accommodate all people who are ready to join him in bringing changes in football.
"I have been on record together with Hussein calling for the right people who want to improve standards of Kenyan football to come on board and support us," said Mbarak.
Hussein said: "I am ready to work with whoever stands for change in Kenyan football administration. Football needs selfless people and I can accommodate those who really want this change to benefit our youth."
Mbarak said he was ready to work with Hussein as his name had not been tainted.
"Hussein and I have passion for football and that is why we want to take over football leadership," said Mbarak.
Other top candidates campaigning for the Chairmanship are Football Kenya Limited (FKL) Chairman Mohammed Hatimy, KFF Chairman Sam Nyamweya and former Harambee Stars player Sammy Sholei.
The Independent Electoral Board has not set the date for the much-awaited elections, which should have been done by April, if the programme released last December was any guide
