Dear Mr Musalia Mudavadi; Now that your colleague and Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu is threatening to literally stone any new flat demolition squads, don't you think the matter is graver than what is doing the rounds? Firstly, where is the Roll of registered contractors so that the dark horses can be blacklisted? Secondly, who are these so-called Big Fish that own teetering edifices in Nairobi? Don’t you think refurbishment of estate hospitals, repair of moonscape roads, fixing fresh water supply, repair of lighting and dealing with insecurity could save more lives than chasing fellows who can probably afford to hire an entire courtroom if you dare bring down another storey block?
Blind loyalty should ideally also have its limits, but alas, somebody forgot to mention this to the folk over at Komba-eran Primary School in Eldoret North constituency. You see, Education Assistant Minister Ayiecho Olweny was struck by the philanthropic bug and decided to donate books worth Sh30,000 to the institution. However, his gesture was rebuffed by the institution’s management committee on the grounds that Ayiecho’s move was intended to ‘undermine’ area MP William Ruto! So, it is better to stop pupils from acquiring an education instead of risk being seen to ‘consort with the enemy’s ally?’ How dumb can one get?
The death of a detective investigating an alleged gun attack on Kilome MP Harun Mwau’s Range Rover has tongues wagging. There is talk of ‘powerful, unseen forces’ at work that will stop at nothing to ensure the authorities don’t get to the bottom of Friday’s peculiar shooting. But particularly unsettling is that those peddling these unfounded suspicions are not idle, uneducated village louts. No. These are well-educated, sober wananchi who should know better. When pressed for details on the ‘supernatural, dastardly deed’, the response is a cryptic "these things are known, bwana." It’s times like this that Palaver fears for this country.
And finally…
Considering that the Government provides prisoners with free housing, meals, clothing, food and lots of free time, what is money meant for Free Primary Education doing in the Prisons Department’s bank accounts?
