MPs claim Abdikadir team out to substitute Keriako

By David Ochami and Mutinda MwanziaA group of MPs have claimed the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee has been turned into an inquisition to replace Keriako Tobiko with a favoured candidate.
The MPs said there is a politician behind Tobiko’s tribulations but did not name him/her.
"We are not threatening the committee investigating Tobiko or prejudging the outcome of its probe," said the MPs.
The CIOC was on Wednesday told by former PS Sammy Kirui that Tobiko sent proxies to demand for a Sh5 million bribe. But Tobiko told the committee Kirui was not sincere because he should have reported the matter earlier to either the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission or the Criminal Investigations Department.
Gichugu MP Martha Karua also told the DPP that he was to blame for the dismissal of the corruption case against Eldoret North MP William Ruto, who was acquitted after several witnesses failed to appear to testify in the case filed in 2004.
Over the Ruto case, Tobiko said under the current arrangement, a prosecutor is left helpless when the police fail to produce witnesses in court.
, Belgut MP Charles Keter claimed the witnesses testifying against Tobiko are contrived and declared, "We know who has sent them."
‘We’ll stand by him’
Dujis MP Aden Duale claimed "there is a systematic scheme to block Tobiko who has been nominated by a reputable institution".
The Livestock Development assistant minister said Tobiko’s name was approved by the President and Prime Minister and declared that "we shall stand with Tobiko, today, tomorrow and on Tuesday on the floor of the Parliament."
Meanwhile, a section of Maasai professionals have thrown their weight behind Tobiko, saying he was competent for the post of DPP. The 45 professionals drawn from Narok and Kajiado described as smear campaign the opposition against Tobiko.
"We stand by Tobiko and urge MPs to endorse him for the post," said Joseph Sonkori, the chairman of the professional lobby group.
The group said his performance while at the Attorney General’s office was exemplary and he should not be vilified.
