A brother and sister who forged Chief of the General Staff Jeremiah Kianga’s documents to swindle Kenyans seeking military jobs have been charged in court.
David Njoroge, who is serving a life sentence at Kamiti jail and his sister Ms Ann Njeri appeared before Kiambu senior resident magistrate Catherine Oluoch where they denied three counts of forgery.
They were accused of committing the offences between November last year and January this year.
The two, with others not before the court, face two counts for obtaining Sh25,170 from Mr Jackson Matheri and Sh30,000 from Mr Alex Limbwathey between January 3 and 25, by pretending that they would secure them military jobs.
They also face a third count for obtaining Sh5,000 from Ms Catherine Marth, after assuring her of an appointment with Gen Kianga to secure employment in the armed forces.
They were freed on a cash bail of Sh100, 000 each, pending the next hearing scheduled for August 9, 2011.
Last December, Gen Kianga reported that con men had faked his name and documents to register M-Pesa accounts, which they were using to swindle unsuspecting Kenyans.
This was after several people flocked his office at the Department of Defence headquarters saying they had sent him money for military jobs.
Njoroge and his sister were arrested over the weekend by Criminal Investigation Department officers after a six-month hunt.
Hundreds of Kenyans have been conned in the same way by people pretending they could get them military jobs.
