| null     1/1 NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 - Kenya's bilateral ties with Northern Sudan will not be affected by the declaration of a new Republic of Southern Sudan, President Mwai Kibaki has stated. President Kibaki gave the assurance on Thursday during a meeting with Sudan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Karti who paid him a courtesy call at his Harambee House Office. During the occasion, Mr Karti delivered a special message from President Omar al Bashir to President Kibaki. In their discussions, President Kibaki reaffirmed Kenya's commitment towards the successful conclusion of the North/South Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement and expressed Kenya's willingness to offer any form of assistance that may be required. The Head of State said that Kenya was eager to deepen the existing cordial bilateral relations between the two countries and to continue working closely within various existing regional and continental multilateral frameworks such as IGAD and the African Union. He further underscored that the need for the two countries to create mechanisms so as to continue co-existing side by side in peace. At the same time, the President congratulated President Bashir and the National Congress Party for their commitment to the spirit of the CPA as evidenced in the successfully concluded South Sudan referendum earlier this year. The Head of State emphasised that the conclusion of the referendum marked the biggest milestone in the implementation of the historic peace accord between the North and the South. President Kibaki also commended the two parties for resuming negotiations to deliberate on the remaining outstanding issues particularly the delineation of the North/South border and agreement on sharing of oil and gas rich regions. Preparations to usher in the new Republic of South Sudan are in top gear while its capital has been earmarked to be based at Ramcel, a region in the central part of Southern Sudan. The Sudanese Minister reaffirmed that President Bashir and North Sudan were committed to the full implementation of the CPA which comes to an end in July. Thanking Kenya for the pivotal role she played in brokering the peace agreement, the Minister urged Kenya to support efforts geared towards lifting of sanctions imposed on Sudan by the international community. In attendance were Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Richard Onyonka, acting Foreign Affairs PS Patrick Wamoto and Internal Security PS Francis Kimemia among others.
