Moi blames coalition for lack of pecking order

By Steve Mkawale
Former President Moi said the Coalition Government lacks clear chain of command and was recipe for chaos.
Moi said it was a pity his successor –President Kibaki – did not have a free hand to run the Government, making it impossible for him to govern.
In a statement released by his Press Secretary Lee Njiru, Moi observed that wrangling in the Grand Coalition had taken centre stage at the expense of important national issues.
The former Head of State was speaking at Suguta Marmar in Samburu during a wedding of Sheila Nasieku, daughter of the late General Lenges.
Moi said the Coalition Government was not the best for the country as there was nobody accountable to the public.
The two principals – President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga – have in the recent past been embroiled in a tussle over nomination of individuals to key constitutional offices.
The two met and resolved to let two parliamentary committees to which House Speaker Kenneth Marende referred the matter to resolve it.
It is the first time for the former President has publicly criticised the Government.
On Saturday, Moi also called on the youth aspiring for elective posts to listen to the counsel of older and more experienced politicians.
The former President offered to pay school fees for five Samburu children throughout their secondary education.
