Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has told off Public Works Minister Chris Obure over his criticism of ODM. Magara had earlier said that ODM will collapse because Rift Valley leaders have declared that they will leave the party.
Over the weekend, Obure said Magara was bitter with ODM because he had not been appointed a minister when the grand coalition was formed.
In response, the former ODM treasurer said the minister was an opportunist who benefitted from the downfall of other people. Magara, speaking to journalists in his office yesterday, reiterated that ODM was slowly disintegrating by fragmentation.
Magara said that Obure benefitted from ODM in spite of the fact that he contributed nothing to the foundation of the party. He claimed that Obure was appointed minister because ‘he bought it’ and has no locus standi to comment about the formation of ODM. “He is politically impotent and ideologically bankrupt. He has nothing to offer the Kisii community,” Magara said.
He challenged Obure to stop being petty and seek higher office instead of concentrating on the Bobasi seat all his life. Obure had also told Magara to reflect on why he lost his seat in last year’s by-election instead of continuously criticising ODM. “Losing election is a part of the game which Obure seems to have forgotten having lost elections severally. I have gotten momentum to rejuvenate myself after I lost in the byelection and I am now destined for bigger things,” Magara said.
Magara intimated that he may seek the presidency in the next general elections saying it’s a matter of time before he makes his intentions known. “Kibaki will be retiring next year and the position of the presidency will be vacant. We have also the governorship and senatorial positions; I will make my announcement soon,”he said.
The former legislator said that currently he was concentrating on building his PDP party which he will use in his campaigns next year.
