Former Defence minister Njenga Karume has said he will not vie for the Kiambu senator’s job in 2012 despite pressure from residents. He said delegations have visited him urging him to go to the senator’s job but he has made up his mind that he will not be seeking an elective position.Karume said if he changes his mind, he will go for the presidency and not the senator’s position. “I will not vie for the position of a senator. But should I dream and decide to vie for a position, I will go for the presidency," Karume said.
Speaking in Kiambu county yesterday, Karume said the stalemate sparked by the nomination of key judicial officers had created tension in the country and Kenyans were worried it might have degenerated to a full political crisis.
Karume hailed President Kibaki for withdrawing his list of nominees to the offices, ending a row that had threatened to split the coalition government.
Karume asked Kenyans and especially the clergy to pray for the leaders and the country so that peace can prevail.
