Retired President Moi's son Gideon has dismissed claims that he is involved in illicit drug and arms trade. Gideon was reacting to an article in the Weekend Star which was based on a report tabled in Parliament last week by Internal security minister George Saitoti which cited Gideon as a partner in Juja MP William Kabogo's Orbit Transport.
The information was contained in a dossier on suspected drug traffickers and illegal arms dealers which had been prepared by outgoing US ambassador Michael Ranneberger. " I have never had any business dealings with William Kabogo, or with any drugs or armaments. The only logical conclusion behind this wife and unsubstantiated content is one of either malice or a mischievous attempt to use my name to create sensationalism," Gideon said in a statement.
Five MPs — Kisauni's Ali Hassan Joho, Kabogo, Kilome's Harun Mwau, Makadara's Gideon Mbuvi and Saboti's Eugene Wamalwa — who were identified as suspected drug traffickers by Saitoti several weeks have vociferously denied their involvement.
Yesterday, Gideon blamed people with ulterior motives for what he described as an "unprovoked attack on my integrity." "The names of any shareholders and directors of any company in Kenya are easily obtainable from the company registry.... I would never as a God fearing Christian who loves his country and its people, involve myself in such unsavoury appalling acts,. I cannot fathom wht any person would associate me with these dreadful dealings." he said.
