Plan to hire top lawyers for Uhuru

By ANTONY GITONGA
MPs from central Kenya have announced a plan to raise money and hire the best lawyers to defend Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta in The Hague.
The legislators said they would be meeting to forge the way forward after the ICC prosecutor released the names of the six top suspects who included Uhuru.
Kinangop MP David Ngugi said plans to hire the best lawyers were under way.
"We shall stand by Mr Uhuru and Francis Muthaura and make sure they have enough resources to hire the best lawyers," said the MP.
Mr Ngugi hit out at Ocampo saying he had politicised his investigations, adding the real culprits had been left out.
The MP wondered why those who called for mass action were not listed.
Limuru MP Peter Mwathi said the list had left many Kenyans disappointed. He hit out at US President Barack Obama over his directive that the country should obey the ICC directives.
"The US is not a signatory of the Rome Statute and we wonder why Obama is suddenly interested in the Kenya case," said Mr Mwathi.
The two were speaking in Longonot, Naivasha, during the burial of Mary Wanja Kamau, Mwathi’s sister.
They called on Kenyans to be peaceful, adding Ocampo had relied on work done by others.
