1/1 Mr Peter Kuria Kirima, a brother to the deceased accused family members of the first wife of excluding other members during the period Mr Kirima was in hospital. He claimed that they were even not informed of the former MP's death which he said they learnt of from the press. "We must be told what killed him because we were never informed what he was suffering from apart from that he was having a mental illness," Mr Kuria stated. "We just saw him on television being taken to Europe but we have never received any information on how he was faring on until recently when we heard that he was transferred to South Africa because of the snow storms in Europe," he explained. The businessman died at a South African hospital on Tuesday after a week in a coma according to family sources. His death comes at a time when members of his extended family are in a tussle over control of his multi-million shillings estate. "They (children of the first wife) have not even said when they are going to bring him home so we cannot even begin to make any funeral arrangements. I am praying to God that they do not start the conflict again but wait until he is buried before sharing the property," Mr Kuria said. He claimed that the late Kirima wanted to be buried in his home district of Murang'a which he said was indicated in his will. He said that when the first wife's children took him from his Kitisuru home on medical grounds, he was taken "like a prisoner rather than a sick person." The deceased's third wife Teresia Wairimu has also demanded for a post mortem to be conducted. Drama pitting the Kirima family started about five months ago when daughters from the first wife stormed his home in Kitisuru and demanded that he be taken to hospital. After two weeks of unsuccessful attempts, they engaged top government officials and a cabinet minister who helped get Kirima taken to the Nairobi Hospital. Once at the hospital, members of Kirima's first wife sealed all the entries to the hospital to block Mr Kirima's third wife Teresia, son and daughters from visiting him. A few days later, Teresia moved to court where she sought orders to visit her husband but by the time she went to serve the hospital, Mr Kirima had already been flown out to the United Kingdom for treatment. The court cases are still pending. Mr Kirima had three wives, one is deceased and another separated. |
