Moi tells leaders to focus on development

By Stella Mwangi
Former President Moi has challenged leaders to focus on development instead of wasting time on county politics.
Moi said it was selfish for leaders to focus on politics instead of dealing with issues that were affecting ordinary Kenyans.
"The ongoing debate on constituency boundaries and who will lead what county is a waste of time and dividing people," said the former Head of State.
He said county politics have taken a tribal dimension and were dividing Kenyans instead of uniting them.
"We are a growing nation let us avoid tribalism and remain united so that we can continue to work towards economic growth of our country," he said.
Speaking at Kabarak AIC Community Chapel at the weekend during a Christmas Carol service Moi said he believes in politics that brings development.
Uphold peace
"I am a believer of East African Federation, not these small counties in the country, " he stated.
At the same time the former President cautioned leaders against using inflammatory statements in public. "Leaders say things casually, which should not be said affecting the peace of the country," he told the congregation.
Kabarak, Masinde Muliro, Maseno and Nairobi universities choirs and Good Shepherd Church choir entertained guests.
Moi wished Kenyans a merry Christmas and urged them to uphold peace and help the needy during the festive season.
