Mr Hassan ole Kamwaro has been re-appointed chairman of Transport Licensing Board.
In a special issue of the Kenya Gazette, President Kibaki revoked the appointment of Wilfred Lengei who until last Friday was the board chairman, and named Kamwaro the new TLB boss.
Kamwaro, who resigned from the job in 2007 to vie for the Narok North parliamentary seat, will be the board chairman for a period of one year, the notice states.
Kamwaro and the former Transport Minister John Michuki were credited for bringing sanity to the transport industry especially in the chaotic matatu sector.
It was during that time that all public service vehicles were fitted with speed governors and safety belts amid protest from the stakeholders.
Addressing a news conference in Narok on Monday, Kamwaro said he will work with all the stakeholders in the transport sector to curb the runaway road accidents.
"We will work together to re-introduce and reinforce the Michuki Rules. The high rate of accidents in our roads is unacceptable," he said.
Kamwaro who regretted that the gains the sector had made in reducing road carnage has been eroded, added he would also work with all related government agencies to rein in on undisciplined public service vehicles operators to curb road carnage.
"Ninety five per cent of road accidents in the country are caused by speeding, reckless and drunk drivers," he added.
Kamwaro also asked the police to enforce traffic rules to curb loss of lives and to the economy through road accidents.
