Prime Minister Raila Odinga has maintained that the proposed constitution is a government project.

Speaking on Thursday night during a Yes fundraiser at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), the PM said the draft law was passed unanimously in parliament adding that the review process was facilitated by the government.

The PM however allayed fears that public funds would be used to fund the ‘YES' campaigns for the forthcoming constitutional referendum.

"The work of the Committee of Experts, the Parliamentary Select Committee and the several retreats made during the constitution writing process was funded by the government that is why the proposed constitution is a government project", PM said.

Other chief guests were Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, ‘YES'co- conveners, Ministers Kiraitu Murungi and Anyang Nyong'o, Ministers Prof. George Saitoti, Henry Kosgei, James Orengo, Mohamed Kuti and the two government whips, Jakoyo Midiwo and Johnstone Muthama amongst others.

Leading personalities from business community attended the harambee.

Raila and Kalonzo said the ‘YES' National Secretariat is in a position to raise the required funds from well-wishers to mobilize supporters and organize campaign rallies for the ‘YES' team.

During the Occasion the PM and VP unveiled a new Green National Campaign website, www.yeskatiba.com.

Before the commencement of speeches the meeting observed a minute silence in honor of those who perished following grenade attack at Uhuru Park last weekend.

The VP appealed to Kenyans to support the new law, saying it was time the country embrace positive change that would transform the lives of every citizen for the better.

He said the new constitution will usher in a new dawn for social and economic prosperity for the country.

The two leaders appeal for supporters and well-wisher to contribute generously towards the ‘YES' campaign kitty to facilitate smooth and successful campaigns.

Leaders who spoke at the meeting expressed confidence that the proposed law will pass at the referendum and Kenyans will count themselves part of the international community in the 21st century.

The said many Kenyans had sacrificed a lot towards a new constitutional dispensation for over 20 years and it was time they realize their dreams.

The leaders said the ‘YES' team under guidance of the Green National Secretariat will use modern commercial based marketing strategies to sell the proposed document and ensure landslide win come August 4th referendum.

The Yes group resorted to the fundraiser after Treasury refused to release cash to fund its campaign activities. Over Sh7M was raised.
