'YES' TO NYAHURURU

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta Saturday led the Party of National Unity-PNU 'Yes' team to Nyahururu to drum up support for the proposed constitution.

Uhuru who is also the Finance Minister urged Kenyans to endorse the draft law saying it was ‘Kenyan Made'.

He said the contentious clauses would be amended later once the draft law passes.

Uhuru who was accompanied by seven legislators accused the No proponents of peddling falsehood about the draft law.

"It is true that there are some issues in the draft that Kenyans have pointed out but this should not deter us from getting a new law. The opponents are using these contentious clauses to woo Kenyans to vote against it while they can be amended later," said Uhuru.

He noted the chapters on representation, devolution and land did not have any problem as claimed by the reds.

"This is the best document that reflects the wishes of all Kenyans and the document should not be dismissed. It has the issues that reflect the wishes of all Kenyans" he said.

MPs Ndiritu Muriithi ( Laikipia West) Eugene Wamalwa ( Saboti) Jeremiah Kioni( Ndaragwa) Joseph Kiuna (Molo) Maison Leshoomo(Nominated MP) Mwangi Kiunjuri(Laikipia East) Nelson Gaichuhie( Subukia) attended the rally.

On Friday, politicians allied to PNU set up the new alliance to campaign for the proposed constitution on at County Hall. The new camp kicked off its campaigns in Nyahururu before moving to Nanyuki.

Mandera Central MP Mohammed Abdikadir was chosen as coordinator with Kinagop MP David Ngugi as deputy. Administration will be headed by Mr Jasper Nyamboga, the PNU executive director.

Briefing the media, Mr Abdikadir refuted claims that the ‘Yes" team was divided saying that the new team would only enhance the Yes campaign to ensure the country achieved a new constitution.

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka also assured Kenyans that there is no parallel secretariat to the one that was recently launched to coordinate the YES campaigns for the forthcoming constitution referendum.

The VP clarified that contrary to what some people perceive to be a separate secretariat from the central one, there might be other groups that supplement the work of the central secretariat.
