Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka will now work as a team in the ‘Yes’ campaign but in different podiums.
In the new arrangement some ODM ministers and MPs would be attending ‘Yes’ campaign rallies presided over by the VP, while some PNU ministers and MPs would likewise be attending rallies presided over by Raila.
The two would, however, be together at rallies led by President Kibaki. Both the PM and the VP were expected to be leading separate ‘Yes’ rallies today but the arrangement changed.
The two will be at the Tononoka Grounds rally in Mombasa today where Kibaki will also be present.
It was earlier expected that Raila would be at the Tononoka rally while Kalonzo would be in Mwingi.
Those expected to attend the Tononoka rally include ODM-K MPs Prof Philip Kaloki and PNU Deputy Chief Whip Johnstone Muthama and PNU MP Nderitu Mureithi among others.
Contacted, VP’s aid Kaplich Barsito said this strategy would enable ‘Yes’ campaigner cover the country at the shortest time possible.
The new arrangements come after an incident at Uhuru Park ‘Yes’ rally recently where some rowdy youths heckled the VP.
Raila arrived at Mombasa Friday in preparation for today’s meeting. Several ‘Yes’ Cabinet ministers, MPs, Christian and Muslim leaders are expected to attend the rally.
