Kalonzo welcomes Annan visit

Kalonzo Musyoka has welcomed Dr. Koffi Annan's visit to Kenya, saying he is schedule to meet and share with him on the progress made so far on the implementation of Agenda four of the National Peace Accord.

Mr. Musyoka reaffirmed the government's commitment to the implementation of Agenda item four, noting that is crucial in ensuring security for all Kenyans and visitors as well as fight against poverty besides giving guidance in various institutional reforms processes.

He at the same time urged investors to have confidence in the country's capacity to provide enabling environment for their business to thrive.

"Ongoing police and other institutional reforms will further strengthen security in the country, I appeal to investors not to relocate to other destinations. We are committed to ensuring a conducive environment for business", VP assured.

The Vice President made the remarks Sunday when he launched the East African Ramgarhia Board Food Project at the Ramgarhia Sikh Temple, Pangani in Nairobi.

During the occasion, Mr. Musyoka flagged off an assorted relief food consignment donated by United Kingdom based Dhiru Shah Family, destined to various parts of the country.

Thanking the Ramgarhia community for the donations, the Vice President said the food will go along way in alleviating the suffering of the many Kenyans ravaged by the prolonged droughts.

Mr. Musyoka appealed to other charitable organizations to continue assisting families in drought affected areas, noting that the onset of rains would only prepare them to plant crops that would mature in three to six month time and that before then people will still rely on relief food.

Responding to request by the Asian Community to the government to consider granting citizenship to members of the community who have been residence in the country for along time, Mr. Musyoka said the new constitution to be in place soon would provide for dual citizenship.

He however said that the citizenship issue was provided for in the law and that any individual is entitled to citizen status having settled in the country for more than seven years.

Present at the occasion included MP's Peter Mwathe of Limuru and Rev Daniel Muoki of Mwala,The Chairman, East African Ramgarhiah Board, Mr. Manjit Sethi among other dignitaries.
