The Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC) Advisory Board has said it would advertise the posts of KACC Director and two Assistant Directors in Friday’s papers.
KACC Advisory Board Chairman Okongo Omogeni told a news conference that the board expected to fill the positions within the next one and a half months.
“The board anticipates that it will be able to conduct the interviews, forward the names to Parliament for approval appointment by the President within 45 days from today’s date,” he said.
He said interested candidates had 21 days to tender their applications to the advisory board.
Applicants will be required to be a Kenyan citizens who have worked in a senior position either in the private or public sector for more than 15 years. Someone who understands the legal systems and anti corruption laws in the country and among others, a candidate who can strategise on tackling corruption in the country.
Mr Omogeni added: “Candidates should be of high integrity, outstanding honesty, a courageous and independent person who can drive the anti corruption agenda.”
He further said the board will on Friday name two persons among the KACC staff to act in the positions of Assistant Director Preventive Services and Assistant Director Legal Affairs.
He assured of the smooth running of the commission despite the resignation of former Director Aaron Ringera and his Assistants Smokin Wanjala and Fatuma Sichale.
Acting Director John Mutonyi also gave his assurance saying everything at the Commission would go on as usual until the three posts were filled.
Mr Omogeni said the board would work closely with Parliament to evaluate weaknesses to give the commission powers to take cases to court without having to wait for the Attorney General to do so.
He also said they were in contact with the Committee of Experts on the Constitution Review to have KACC empowered in the new draft.
During his service, Justice Ringera had excused failures in prosecutions of crimes saying ‘he had no teeth’
Mr Omogeni also announced that the board had accepted that the next Director will have a 35 percent salary cut which translates to Sh1.6 million from the Sh2.5 million the former Director was earning.
Justice Ringera resigned on Wednesday afternoon amid growing pressure from MPs, the civil society and the public.
His re- appointment was seen as unprocedural with most critics also accusing him of incompetence.
Upon his resignation, he said he will take a two-month break to decide his future.
