An alliance that is intended to unite the people of Rift Valley, Central and Eastern provinces following the recent post-election violence that rocked some parts of the country is in the offing, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said on Wednesday
Kalonzo said it was time for Kenyans to engage in serious dialogue and reconciliation for the sake of peace and stability in the country.
He said the alliance will later seek for support from residents of Nyanza, Western, Coast and North Eastern among other parts of the country on the need to live harmoniously among themselves and with their neighbors irrespective of tribal and political affiliations.
"The primary role of this alliance is to unite the country following the recent post election violence. The alliance will later be transformed into a strong political movement that will seek for votes from Kenyans come the next general election,'' said Mr. Musyoka.
Speaking at Kisukioni market in Kangundo district during distribution of seeds for planting ahead of the expected El Nino rains.
Musyoka said he will work closely with the Agriculture Minister William Ruto who was present in exploring ways of uniting the people of Rift valley among other provinces.
"We are going to reach out to all the people of Kenya to emphasize on the need for them to forget the past and regard each other as brothers and sisters for the sake of the future of this country,'' he said.
He said it was encouraging that the Japanese government through the ministry of agriculture has provided seeds worth 220 million to be distributed to farmers for planting ahead of the expected El Nino rains.
Musyoka also announced that the Government has set aside Kshs. 30 million for the construction of the newly created Matungulu district headquarters.
He said the Government through the creation of more administrative units was committed to taking services closer to the people unlike in the past when residents trekked for long distances in search for such services.
Food sufficiency
Ruto said his ministry has put in place proper mechanisms aimed at attaining the country's food sufficiency and thus contain the problem of perennial hunger once and for all.
"We have a master plan for the Government to get subsidized seeds and fertilizer,'' he said.
" I also want to assure Kenyans that there is hope for us since we have what it takes to produce enough food for surplus and for sale. We cannot be proud to be Kenyans unless we can feed ourselves,'' added Ruto.
Ruto who is also the Eldoret North MP reminded Kenyans that no outsider was going to solve their problems for them if they did not do so.
"It doesn't matter how many times personalities like Moreno Ocampo or Koffi Annan visit this country. The solution to the problems facing us lies with us. We have to sit down and solve our problems as Kenyans,'' he added.
Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Mr. Iwatani said the government of Japan will continue to support Kenya in the fight against famine and poverty among other problems facing the country.
