Faiz Magak Monday claimed that there was ticket syndicate as there were fake tickets which were sold.
Gor Mahia is crying foul over “ticket hoax” after the highly attended Sunday derby raised a paltry Sh3.8 million in gate collections.
Club Vice chairman Faiz Magak Monday claimed that there was ticket syndicate as there were fake tickets which were sold at the match venue which he says could have comprised the final figures.
“I have talked with Wells Fargo but the explanation they are giving me is not convincing. We are suspicious because the figures we are being given is too low,” he said.
Magak further said that on the match D-day, a Wells Fargo agent was caught selling the tickets at inappropriate location raising the question about the integrity of the whole ticketing process. The said individual was subsequently locked up at the Kasarani Police Station upon the intervention of Gor Senior vice chair David Kiilo.
At the same time Magak said that the Sh500 flat rate charge was not a well thought idea as it prevented many other fans from attending the match as the figure was relatively high.
“I was not supportive of the flat rate idea. We could have had varying retail prices for various stands to give low earners chance to watch the game. It would have been logical to have higher charges for the VIP stands and lower charges for the terraces,” noted the official.
The closely contested match was well attended by Gor Mahia fans but Ingwecounterparts did not turn up in record numbers as was widely anticipated.
When contacted Kiilo confirmed that he had one of the Wells Fargo guys detained.
“It is true that we had one Wells Fargo guy locked in at the Kasarani Police Station because he was selling the tickets at the wrong place. His act was suspicious and we are still corroborating the figures before we can get the actual tally,” confirmed Kiilo.
However Wells Fargo spokesman Francis Khamande distanced his side from blame saying none of his team members was detained by police.
“There is nothing like that, I cannot speak for Gor, but there is nothing like that,” he said repeatedly.
This is not the first time that Gor is raising the red flag over gate collections. Last year they cancelled their partnership with Ticket Masters before settling for Wells Fargo due to what they termed as ‘discrepancy in home matche’s gate collections’.
