41 killed in Narok bus accident along Nairobi-Narok highway

NAIROBI, KENYA: 41 people were on Thursday morning killed in a bus accident at Ntulele areaalong Nairobi- Narok highway.
At least 33 others have been taken to hospitals inNarok and Kijabe. Police at the scene say the accident happened at about 2 am when the bus crashed as the driver negotiated a drift from Nairobi while headed toHomabay. Among the dead are four children.
Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru said they suspect the driver lost control of the bus before the accident happened. Other witnesses it took long to rescue those who had been trapped under the bus wreckage after it overturned in a ditch.
“We can confirm 41 deaths and 33 are in hospitals with multiple injuries and indications are that the driver lost control of the bus. It is a sad accident. We recovered more bodies that had been trapped under the bus wreckage,” said Kimaru.
He added the bus driver lost control of the City to City bus before it veered off the road and plunged into a valley hitting stones and trees before landing on its roof.
The scene of the accident is about 15 kilometers fromNarok and common with such incidents and locals have been calling for measures to curb them.
