Corridors of Power

Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY THE POLITICAL DESK
Residents of Kisumu County have raised concerns over arbitrary arrests executed by a man who drives a blue car registration number KBT 829 T in the town. They believe the man is a fake cop who arrests people only to demand cash under the pretext he is going to book them in at Kondele or Kisumu central police station. What is worrying is that sometimes the 'cop' is accompanied by uniformed policemen on 'his patrols' in the town. The vehicle is also parked at either the police stations during the day when the 'cop' is not on patrol. Bwana Inspector General David Kimaiyo, maybe its time you dealt with this before there is a repeat of another 'Waiganjo' scenario.

An MP from Nyanza was disappointed when the elaborate plans he had made for a triumphant home coming party collapsed at the eleventh hour. The MP, who has earned a reputation of making good business deals had prepared a budget of Sh 10 million. He had raised a substantive amount but fell into the clutches of some beautiful women who promised to double any cash he gave them. The women who belong to a group of scammers known as ‘Wash wash’ took a sizable chunk of the money and disappeared. The MP has now been forced to postpone the event until he raises adequate cash to host the party.

Two city MPs and a politician nearly came to blows in Parliament on Thursday last week after reports of an alleged meeting between Makadara MP Benson Mutura and former area MP Reuben Ndolo started circulating in the social media. The two MPs were unhappy with the meeting which they believe is aimed at isolating them from the politics of the city. Ndolo and Mutura are alleged to have agreed to work together to “kick out dirt and clean the politics of Makadara."

Police prosecutors attached to various courts in Nairobi are accusing their immediate superiors of misusing them when on official duty. Last week, a senior police officer transferred police prosecutors through SMS! When the officers sought an explanation they were told to wait for communication from Police Headquarters. They are still waiting and have heard no response since then. The problem is, they are unsure of their status now and their boss has declined to explain why they had to be transferred without following formal channels.
