Deputy President William Ruto has pledged to forego any complaint arising from his absence from the The Hague.
This followis his excusal from continuous presence during his trial.
Ruto promised the Judges that he would also sacrifice any appeal that may arise as a consequence of his absence during his trial that kicks-off in September 10.
“I hereby forego every complaint and every appeal against any natural consequence of my voluntary absence from the courtroom as requested,” Ruto said in a signed waiver sent to Judges at the International Criminal Court ( ICC)
He assured the three judge bench that he would remain compliant with the promise despite the existence or non-existence of technology that could facilitate his ability to follow the trial or instruct his counsel from a remote location.
The Chamber led by Nigerian Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji had asked Ruto’s Defence to file with the Registry a waiver signed by Ruto in his own hands that he fully accepted the conditions of his excusal from continuous presence at trial.
The Deputy President reiterated that he supports the rule of law and maintained that witnesses must be left free to give their accounts whether to the prosecution or to the defence.
