  • TNA officials want chairman Johnson Sakaja to relinquish his seat saying he is a state officer following his nomination to the National Assembly.
A leadership row is brewing in President Kenyatta’s The National Alliance Party.
Some TNA officials want chairman Johnson Sakaja to relinquish his seat saying he is a state officer following his nomination to the National Assembly.
The officials who met on Tuesday in Nairobi also want secretary general Onyango Oloo replaced as he is said to be in line for a government job.
On Wednesday, Mr Sakaja acknowledged that some officials wanted him removed as chairman and that they held an “illegal” meeting on Tuesday.
"I remain National Chairman of TNA. An illegally constituted meeting of NOB that did not even have quorum (NOB meetings are convened by the National Chairman and communicated by the Secretary General and require quorum of, which neither myself nor the Secretary General attended cannot purport to have taken any action,” Mr Sakaja said in his facebook page.
"I advice those interested in the position of TNA Chairman to wait for the National Delegates Conference and face me at the ballot. For the avoidance of doubt, that night gathering held has no legal or political implication.”
