Kenya: Jubilee candidate for the Makueni Senate by-election Philip Kaloki says he is ready to challenge Wiper’s Kethi Kilonzo in the July 22 election.
Prof Kaloki said the decision of who fills the seat left vacant by the late Mutula Kilonzo, Kethi’s father, was a preserve for the people of Makueni
Speaking to The Standard a day after CORD unveiled Kethi as its candidate, Kaloki said he is assembling a campaign machinery that will ensure Jubilee wins despite the challenge posed by Kethi.
He said though he sympathised with the Mutula family for the loss of their father, the urge to represent the people of Makueni and implement Mutula’s vision for the county had propelled him to challenge Kethi.
Kaloki said his candidature offers the people of Makueni and by extension the Kamba people an opportunity to be in Government after losing out in the March 4 General Election.
“The Kamba people are not used to being in the opposition and we are not ready to do that for the next four years. I am offering myself to create that missing link,” he said.
Dr Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) and Eng Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), who were both elected to Parliament on Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party tickets said separately that they support Kethi irrespective of their party affiliation.
