Corridors of Power

Is the glass half-full or half empty? Some wags are reading profound meaning in what may be considered an innocuous thing. They are now saying that Deputy President William Ruto is not being accorded the stature and prominence which he deserves. They point out that during the photo session after the recent national leadership and integrity conference held at the School of Monetary Studies, the seat used by President Uhuru Kenyatta was imposing and 'presidential' while Ruto's seat was the same as all the others used by the Cabinet secretaries. They imply that organizers of such events must ensure that the seat used by Ruto is equally or as imposing as that used by the President.

Some senior officials at the Agricultural Society of Kenya have resorted to a hide and seek game after a court ruled that the organisation pay a former manager for unfair dismissal. The former manager obtained a court order to attach and sell some of ASK's property which has seen some of the officials instruct drivers to 'hide' the society's vehicles which could be easily attached by auctioneers.

A group of government officials and others from the Media Council of Kenya are recovering from a nasty experience when they were robbed in broad daylight outside a five-star hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. The officials, who included Information Secretary Ezekiel Mutua were in a hotel van when they were accosted in the parking bay of the hotel. None of them were injured but they lost all their valuables including their passports, money, jewels, visa cards, phones and ipads. It took the intervention of the Press Council of SA and the Kenyan High Commissioner in that country to have temporary travel documents processed.

It has been a celebratory week for MPs after they finally got paid their long delayed salaries. Four MPs from Central Kenya invited their colleagues out for a night of celebration. The four MPs played host at a popular Nairobi nyama choma den for many of their colleagues who have been missing in action from the social scene since they were elected as they had yet to get paid. Several MPs are now busy planning for their home-coming parties some of which are scheduled to be held this weekend.
