We will defect from UHURU-RUTO alliance over BALALA - MWAKWERE and KAMBI vow

Saturday November 10, 2012 -Environmental Minister Ali Chirau Mwakwere and Assistant Minister Kazungu Kambi have threatened to quit the Uhuru Ruto alliance if Mvita MP Najib Balala will be their pointman at the Coast Region.

In a move which can be seen as an ethnic rivalry, the two MPs said there was no room for Balala in the party.

“We as Mijikenda leaders cannot and will not accept Mr Balala to be the coast leader in the Uhuru/Ruto alliance pact. It cannot happen. We will not play second fiddle, not anymore,” Mr. Kambi told a press conference in Mombasa on Friday.

On his part, Mwakwere who is also the Matuga MP said Kaya elders had warned him against working with Mr Balala in any coalition.

“I totally agree with honourable Kambi. We were ordered by Kaya elders and Coastal people that we must not accept Balala in G7 or any political alliance,” Mwakwere said.

“If we accept him, we do it at our own peril. We will also face rejection from our community,” Mwakwere added.

The Minister further stated that the Mijikenda community were unhappy with Mr Balala’s leadership qualities and would not vote for anyone who entered into an alliance with the former Tourism Minister.
