The National Alliance and New Ford Kenya have put on hold the signing of a coalition agreement to allow further consultations.
The deal would have been signed on Friday but New Ford Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa and TNA’s Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday night are said to have agreed to consult further with the United Republican Party and Narc.
Sources revealed that the coalition agreement, which was initially to be signed on Tuesday, was seen as premature as Mr Kenyatta was still in talks with URP’s William Ruto and Narc’s Charity Ngilu.
The deal would have seen Mr Wamalwa drop his presidential bid in favour of Mr Kenyatta, but the two are now said to have agreed that they participate in joint nominations alongside Mr Ruto and Ms Ngilu.
No plans to fold up
On Friday, Mr Wamalwa dismissed reports that there was already a deal where he would get the position of Speaker.
“We will not put the cart before the horse, no agreement has been reached with TNA, I’m not going for anything less,” he said when he met the party’s National Executive Committee in Nairobi.
The party insisted that even as it talks with other like-minded parties, it expects its leader to be in the presidential race to the end. New Ford Kenya also said that it had no plans to fold up and merge with any other.
Sources revealed that Mr Kenyatta, Mr Ruto and Mr Wamalwa will embark on marketing their possible alliance.
