December 4th is IEBC deadline for forming a coalition
Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta of TNA Thursday morning met Eldoret North MP William Ruto of URP and several leaders drawn from different parties where they agreed to form a coalition.
The meeting in Nairobi was attended by party leaders Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa of New Ford- Kenya, Water Minister Charity Ngilu of NARC and Najib Balala of Republican Party and were joined by MPs Chirau Mwakwere, Aden Duale, Kiema Kilonzo, Charles Keter and Musikari Kombo.
Nominated MP Musikiri Kombo said they had agreed on a pact that will unite all Kenyans towards peace and prosperity.
"This will be a coalition of ideas, issues that face our nation and provision of solutions on challenges that our people face" said the MP in a statement.
Kombo said they were working out  details of the coalition agreement that would be formalised soon.
"In the coming days, the issues that were discussed this morning will start to crystalize and the solutions by the like-minded leaders will be presented across all the 47 counties" he said.
" We agreed that the five pillars would be the agenda we pursue in the coalition in the next five years", said Mr Kilonzo as he emerged from the meeting, adding  that more details would emerge as the coalition crystallizes.
The politicians on Wednesday flew out to Burundi where they discussed various issues including a pre-election pact.
December 4th is the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deadline for forming a coalition.
Voter registration
Meanwhile, the IEBC has defended its decision to push forward the start of the voter registration exercise.
The commission rubbished claims the delay in voter registration could result in a postponement of the March 4th general elections saying it plans to use the extra time to train the 30,000 clerks and assess their competence individually.
This comes even as the electoral body began dispatching the bio metric voter registration kits to the various registration centers across the country in readiness for the training of the clerks scheduled to begin on Monday the 12th.
Iin recent days the spotlight has remained on the electoral body with anxiety building on the exact date the much anticipated voter registration exercise will commence.
It is this anxiety that has seen the electoral body come out to urge for patience as it deals with the logistical and administrative challenges of ensuring the new equipment is not only dispatched countrywide but also the 30,000 men and women who will be tasked with handling the machines are well trained.
IEBC's communications and corporate manager Tabitha Mutemi cautioning against alarmist statements regarding the delay says.
"The commission doesn't want to create anxiety on election timelines and processes unless those timelines are clearly informed by logistical and administrative realities even though circumstances beyond our control have on a few occasions forced us to adjust..."She Said.
She at the same time gave an assurance the exact date will be made public once it is clear.
At the same time the BVR kits have began to be dispatched to the registration centers ahead of Monday's training which will see the 1st batch of 15,000 clerks trained between 12-15th while the remaining 15,000 clerks will be trained between the 15th and 17th.
