A pre-election pact between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) is slated for November 10, Kangundo MP Johnstone Muthama said on Friday.
“The politics of this country will drastically change on November 10 when we finally endorse a pre-election arrangement with ODM,” said Mr Muthama during a joint rally held at Kendu Bay showground in Homa Bay County.
Mr Muthama and Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang’ told a public rally at Homa Bay that the November 10 declaration will be hosted by WDM Secretary General Mutula Kilonzo.
Mr Muthama reiterated his earlier sentiments that Mr Kalonzo Musyoka had been betrayed by President Mwai Kibaki in his quest to become the country’s fourth president. Read (Kibaki has not betrayed me, says VP Musyoka)
“It is unfortunate that after coming to the aide of President Kibaki in 2008, he has thrashed the memorandum of understanding we created, which was supposed to support Musyoka's bid,” Mr Muthama said.
Odinga, Kalonzo must unite
Mr Muthama, in the company of 20 councillors from Ukambani said he laboured with his joint parliament chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo to have Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka form a united team for the last elections.
“We are determined to succeed in uniting these two leaders because it is what the parties want,” he said.
Mr Kajwang’ said manifestos of the two parties are similar making it easy to govern the country if united.
“We have done the arithmetic, which reveals that we will reach the political Canaan when united with the Wiper Party,” he said.
Lands Minister James Orengo in attendance at the rally said Kenya was now comprised of progressive leaders and those that are in favour of the status quo.
He added that it is a joint ticket between ODM and WDM that would safeguard the aspirations of Kenyans as enshrined in the Constitution.
“A joint ticket between ODM and Wiper will see Kenyans realise the fruits of the Constitution as opposed to the others who are self-seekers,” Mr Orengo said.
Mr Kajwang’ also alleged that their opponents had plans of rewriting the Constitution on ascending to power.
“I have credible information that as soon as they are elected to power, they will change the Constitution to suit them. I have personally seen a draft copy of this,” Mr Kajwang’ said.
They were speaking at Kendu Bay showground in the Homa Bay County.
