Ngilu: I will soon sign MoU with TNA

KITUI, KENYA: Water minister Charity Ngilu said pre-election merger between her Narc party and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA would be sealed soon.

Ngilu said it was just a matter of time before a formidable Memorandum of Understanding between the two presidential hopefuls was formally agreed.

The minister said she had opted to join Uhuru and Eldoret North MP William Ruto to redeem the Kamba community, in particular, from being locked out of the government.

Speaking at Kanyangi and Kyusiani shopping centres, Kitui West constituency in Kitui County, Ngilu sought to dismiss allegations that her presidential quest was to embarrass Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka.

“Yes, it is true that I am now working closely with Uhuru and Ruto to transform this country into a prosperous one with rebranded leadership geared to ending abject poverty, diseases, lack of water and other problems that mostly affect women and children,” Ngilu said.

Accompanied by Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo and former nominated MP Grace Mwewa, the minister further dismissed claims that she was out to spoil Kalonzo’s vote share in Ukambani.  She said the central and western Kenya voting blocs had more than two presidential aspirants.

‘Spoiler’ politics

“Why are we not hearing ‘spoiler’ politics in Central where we have Uhuru, Martha Karua, and Peter Kenneth all garnering for the top seat or in Western where Musalia Mudavadi is on, alongside?Cyrus Jirongo, and Eugene Wamalwa for the presidency,” she wondered.

Mr Kiema, who is eyeing the county governorship, decried mudslinging and name-calling politics in Ukambani and told leaders from the region to let the development track record for Ngilu and Kalonzo speak for themselves.

He said, if elected governor, he would provide leadership geared towards wealth creation.

“My main focus would be to empower residents and fight poverty in the vast mineral rich county. I will use my authority to fight attempts by some ‘greedy’ leaders to collude with people from outside Kambaland to deprive Kitui people of their wealth,” Kiema said.
