Mudavadi is welcomed at Wote by a UDF supporter (DPMPS)
Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has cautioned that crafting coalition deals on the basis of individuals or communities could plunge the country into ethnic conflict.
He said fear should not be the guide in forming coalitions. "We suddenly seem to be in a panic mode. We must be careful not to drown the country", stated Mudavadi.
He appealed to Kenyans to critically evaluate the current trend of cutting deals among presidential aspirants where the main agenda seems to coalitions of convenience to secure power for themselves.
"Whereas there is nothing wrong with coalitions, those based on convenience of individuals could balkanize the country in ethnic animosity and result in conflict"
He added "I therefore invite Kenyans to critically question the current trend. The talk about what percentage of government a coalition partner will hold reveals that some people have already predetermined that the country belongs to certain individuals to share".
He said the promise that communities must be in power hence the need for coalition of communities and the mathematics of counting ethnic votes must be seen as courting ethnic animosity and precursor to ethnic conflict during elections and in the running of future government.
He asked Kenyans to use this period for soul searching to make the right decision to avoid being carried away by ethnic affiliation", he added when he spoke to worshippers at AIC Church in Wote on Sunday.
Mudavadi at the same time appealed to the Ugandan Government to reconsider the decision to pull out of AMISOM in Somalia.
"I am appealing to the Ugandan Government to reconsider the decision to pull out of Somalia when we are about to offer solution to the decade of war in Somalia. The international community should also understand the delicate Somalia problem and not link what is happening in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Somalia. The solutions are different' he said.
Speaking during meet the people stops at Wote town, Kilala, Mukuyuni, Kivaani and Kola in Makueni County, and in Machakos town, Mudavadi said he welcomes coalition-making in fidelity with the law and on the basis of convergence on policy agenda and to ensure a peaceful and stable country.
The DPM emphasized that any coalition arrangement should put the stability of country and interest of Kenyans first for the country to move into new era under the new constitutional dispensation with renewed hope of a better Kenya.
The DPM was hosted by Former Makueni MP Peter Maundu and was accompanied by legislatures Jeremiah Kioni, George Khaniri, Yusuf Chanzu, and Bonni Khalwale who said Kenyans have the absolute power to decide who will be the next president.
