The LIFE and TIMEs of Josephine Watiri MICHUKI

Wednesday August 22, 2012 - Josephine Watiri Michuki was born in a remote village in   Murang'a County in the mid 1930’s.

She married John Njoroge Michuki in early 1960’s when the late Michuki was a District Officer in Forth Hall currently Murang’a town.

Immediately after their marriage, Michuki was posted to work in Nairobi with the likes of Matiba and the Ndegwa in the youthful team of senior civil servants during Jomo Kenyatta’s first Independent Government. This meant the couple relocated to Nairobi.

Josephine engaged in small business as her husband worked tirelessly to become one of the most celebrated civil servants of all times.

Mrs Michuki was humble and disciplined despite his husband’s achievements and social status.

Compared to other wives of rich and powerful, she was the humblest of them all. She was spotted severally walking on the streets distances without anyone taking notice.

Despite her husband owning a world class hotel, Windsor Resort, she maintained a restaurant called John and Jos located at Cargen House near Kenya Cinema where she served her loyal customers with chips and sumptuous fried chicken at affordable rates.

She died on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.

She was mother- in -law of former Communication Minister Mutahi Kagwe and a doting aunt to late Kikuyu female musician Queen Jane.

Josephine Watiri Michuki has left six children - three sons and three daughters and several grandchildren.
