Tuesday, 21^st August 2012 - Cases of conmen reaping where they did not sow have become a common case in Kenya. They are especially notorious on Route 46 (the Hurlingham-Lavington and Kawangware road.)

A case of a female passenger who underwent a traumatic experience on the bus is circulating on social media. Beware, the language is quite viral.

“BEWARE OF ROUTE 46:

Just alighted from a citi hopa and had the most traumatic experience ….I’m seated with this lady on a three seater seat in the bus ..then just past hurlingham some guy boards the bus and comes to seat next to us , but the lady I’m seated with insist on the guy passing through to seat next to me as she is about to alight .

However the guy insists on seating at the edge and tells her he will let her pass when the time comes for her to alight. So just before chaka the lady who is carrying some heavy luggage stands up to alight and she has to squeeze her way out …. as this is happening the guy on the edge places a bag on her handbag and using his other hand he opens her handbag and tries to steal from her.

Instinctively I inform the lady to watch out and she pulls her bag and goes . ..once she alights the guy turns to me and starts hauling insults at me ….Madam nini mbaya nawewe shugulika na mambo yako , mbona unaharibia watu kazi yao..unajua naweza kukumuagilia acid kwa hizo macho ukuwe kipofu ndio uwache kuangalia mambo hayakuhusu???

At this point I was so scared …but the guy does not relent he says..wewe niwale wanawake tunawashika tunawatomba siku tatu mfululuzo ndio ushike adabu….some guy from behind stands and points at me madam jipe shuguli wacha kuharibia watu …hii ni kazi yetu vile wewe ukona kazi yako ….it’s clear by then that they are many and all this time they are insulting me the citi hopa staff just ignore !

Then they tell me madam unajua ile ushuru sisi tunalipanga ndio tuweze fanya hii kazi, polisi wote wanajua na hakuna mahali unaweza tupeleka PPO wote wanajua nini inaendelea …wewe ni nani kutuharibia .

At that moment I go through so many emotions, I was so angry that they could talk to me like that and nobody could intervene… I was embarrassed that I was the subject of discussion, I felt helpless …I also felt scared especially when they said they could rape me….and pour acid on my eyes…..at some point I thought the guy would slap me . ..I wished I had a gun …..nway after a while I heard them say how I have spoilt for them and they need to alight and thanx God they did at Chaka place about five of them …. I was left in the bus feeling so frustrated that they would do such a thing with impunity …they made it clear that even if I went to tell the cops nothing would be done as they have already paid their “ushuru”. It’s unfourtunate and wonder if the police cannot protect us who will?????”
