NYACHAE and ABDIKADIR put KIBAKI and RAILA under intense PRESSURE

NYACHAE and ABDIKADIR put KIBAKI and RAILA under intense PRESSURE

Monday 27th August 2012 - The chairman of the Commission on Implementation of the Constitution Charles Nyachae had called on the two principals to appoint the Inspector General of the Police with immediate effect.

He also pointed out that delays could compel anyone to petition the courts that police Commissioner Mathew Iteere was in office illegally and should be removed.

Meanwhile, the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee has called for a meeting which will be held tomorrow at County Hall to discuss the delayed appointment of the Registrar of Political Parties.

Abdikadir Mohamed, the chair of CIOC said that the constitution states that a new police command led by the Inspector General should have been in place by today. The Constitution Implementation Commission, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Independent Police Oversight Authority, Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General are some of those invited in the meeting.

Our sources revealed that some powerful figures in the Office of the President are plotting to publish a special gazette notice to announce new appointments in a bid to comply with the new laws.

The new constitution does not recognise the ranks of Police Commissioner and AP commandant but rather merges the two forces to be under the command of the Inspector General.
