MWAKWERE may be OFF the HOOK…….no prosecution for HATE SPEECH

Wednesday August 22, 2012 - Environment Minister Ali Chirau Mwakwere may not be prosecuted for hate speech charges if a reconciliation deal succeeds.

The move came after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) agreed that the allegations against Mwakwere, who is also the Matuga lawmaker, be resolved through reconciliation between him and the complaints, the Muslim for Human Rights group.

Through his lawyer Waweru Gatonye, Mwakwere wrote to the commission and said;

“My client would wish to enter into conciliation with the guidance of the commission,”

The NCIC received the minister’s request on August 2 seeking an out of court settlement.

Commission Chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia told the minister that they had no objection to his request because the law provides such a procedure.

The case awaits hearing next Monday.
